03/07/2023 - Weekly newsletter for Run Move Connect members!''

Updated: Jul 3, 2023

Hello members,

Welcome to July!

Keep an eye on socials this week as we have a special opportunity for our RMC members and the special people in their lives 💙

We loved introducing Mat Pilates in to our schedule and we have had really positive feedback. Pilates is a fantastic challenge for us all, as it will work those small little muscles that we never knew existed. When introducing new exercise to your routine, be kind and allow your body to adapt to the new movement patterns.

✨Just a reminder to cancel your sessions if you are unable to attend. With specific classes and time slots filling quickly, we want to give everyone a chance to exercise at their preferred time.

Quiz Night to Support Local Family

Run Move Connect are proud to be supporting this quiz night for a local family who recently had their lives significantly impacted by a mountain bike incident. Husband, father and friend, Taridah suffered severe injuries after a mountain bike accident leaving him currently unable to walk and limited movement in his arms. There is a long road to recovery and will require extensive medical treatment.

We know that it takes a village to support and care for family and want to extend the invite to our beautiful community.

This is sure to be a fun filled night to support this devastated family! Be sure to purchase your tickets quickly.

TIMETABLE

Please book via our booking portal.

NEW TIMETABLE!

Social Saturday

A change of scenery was welcomed from our community, enjoying the challenge of tackling the "Scenic Hill Burn". If Brad knew how much everyone loved hills, we would run that way every week!

**Next time trial is the 22nd of July**

Upcoming Running Events

Did someone say, trail running? YES! With a quieter upcoming July/August period on the Tasmanian road running scene, we will start to turn our attention to some of Tasmania's most beautiful trail running events coming up!

FREYCINET CIRCUITS TRAIL RUN - CONGRATULATIONS TO KAREN WEGER!

Last Sunday, Karen completed the gruelling 29km run through the Freycinet National Park. On her feet for over 5 and a half hours, Karen overcame one of Tasmania's toughest runs all with a smile on her face (as you could imagine)!

Karen truely is an inspiration to our community and we can't wait to see what challenge she faces next. Rumours are circling on a debut in the marathon (possibly Melbourne). Watch this space!

RUSSEL FALLS TRAIL RUN - Russell Falls is an ideal beginners trail run –or just a whole heap of fun for the more experienced trail runner!! It takes in a couple of the most beautiful waterfalls in Tassie as well as some of Tassie's tallest trees. The trail is pretty much wheel chair standard, except for the stairs!

TOLOSA HALF AND QUARTER TRAIL RUN - This is an authentic mountain half-marathon that offers incredible diversity and is challenging. Runners in both events will leave the edge of suburbia, before the open woodland gradually morphs into a denser and greener mixed forest. From towering eucalypts to the lichen-ridden dolerite, the Tolosa Half and Quarter have it all. Runners will need to navigate some technical rocky terrain, but overall, these are courses that flow very well.

The Tolosa Quarter (Sport | 9.8km) sees runners turn around at the Old Hobartians Track while the Tolosa Half runners will keep going for more jaw-dropping views and intricate hand-made wooden bridges, to The Springs, which are approximately the halfway point. Then it’s a beautifully flowing descent along the purpose-built North-South track.

STRENGTH SESSIONS

FOCUS THIS WEEK IS SINGLE LIMB

  • It is single leg load this week but will be a big focus on balance and improving single limb control for running and walking.

  • Single leg load is what we do in everyday life and is great for injury prevention (hence why we like to keep it in quite regularly).

  • It focuses on trunk control, trunk alignment, knee stability, upper body mobility and movement patterns.

  • Light- moderate resistance but focus on slow movement with great technique.

  • Challenge your stability but be mindful that upper body stability is very hard when loaded too heavy

GENERAL CLASS REMINDERS

  • Please take SWEAT TOWELS and drink bottles with you throughout the session.

  • Please advise the instructor if you have any new or old injuries that they should be aware of or will impact your training. We will support you with your exercise and provide alternative exercises.

  • Please be prompt to classes as we aim to start demonstration on time.
