Good Afternoon RMC'ers,

Happy long weekend and we hope you're enjoying this relaxing weekend.

Goodluck and all the best to all our youth and families who start the school/work year. We understand that this can be a challenging time with balancing your busy schedules but reach out to our friendly RMC staff to support you with maintaing your routine. We all know how beneficial exercise is for maintaining and support our mental and physical health.

RMC HUON VALLEY CLASSIC

A huge thank you goes to all of our runners who participated in the very first RMC Huon Valley Classic. This was RMC's very first offical running event that we hosted. This event simply wouldn't have been possible without alll of our amazing volunteers (shout out the Ingrid Heather!!!) + Reba Sear cafe. The RMC Huon Valley Classic will be back bigger and better in 2026!

Check out the feature in this week's Huon News sports report + an awesome highlight reel put together by Kins Creative who were capturing all these great moments!

The Huon Valley welcomed an exciting new running event on Sunday as Run Move Connect hosted the inaugural RMC Huon Valley Classic. The 20km course featured four 5km loops starting and finishing at Reba Sear Café, allowing runners to cheer each other on and build a great atmosphere. Participants could tackle the distance solo or as a relay team in pairs or groups of three to four.

The event was inspired by the original Huon Valley Classic, a 1990s race where teams of seven covered 200km over three days from Hobart to the Huon Valley and back. “This event is a fantastic way to honor the past while creating new traditions for the local running community,” said event organiser Brad Kitto. “Our goal was to create a low-stress team-based running experience. Running is often seen as an individual sport where people do it for themselves. When running as a team there can be a much bigger sense of achievement plus it's way more enjoyable”

Runners and spectators praised the event for its scenic course and strong community spirit. RMC hopes to build on its success and make the RMC Huon Valley Classic a staple on the local sports calendar.

No Public Holiday session on Monday 10th of February

THANK YOU DYLAN LOVELL

As school holidays winds up this week we would like to take a moment to acknowledge RMC member and generous person of our community Dyl, for his endless generosity and willingness to babysit our children over the school holidays.

We thank you for volunteering your time, entertaining our little ones and keeping them safe. Because of you Dylan, our RMC families have been able to continue to exercise and take valuable time out for themselves.

Strength Session Details for upcoming fortnight.

Week starting 10.02.2025

Strength Class Focus: Overload

  • Overload is one of our favourite focus areas as you are challenged to maintain good technique despite muscular fatigue.

  • This is very relatable to everyday function and we believe this is important for you to build overall capacity in.

  • Muscular endurance is vital for every day function. It ensures we stay upright with good posture, reduces lower back discomfort by maintaining good pelvic stability and develops lower limb strength to assist with walking and every ambulating activity.

  • Always focus on technique as you will fatigue in the muscle quite quickly

  • Light to Moderate resistance recommended with 12 repetitions performed

  • If you are unsure what muscles are working when; chat to our instructors

Week starting 17.02.2025

Strength Class Focus: Multi-Movement

  • Multi Movement exercises use different movement patterns to challenge your overall body awareness and proprioception

  • It will challenge your body to adapt to different stimuli and encouraged to maintain stability and control.

  • This technique will also assist with increasing mobility, function and flexibility.

  • Use light-moderate resistance weight if your technique is perfect, complete 8-10 repetitions maximum and be very controlled. Always discuss with the trainer where you should feel the exercise.

  • Make the movement definite  and controlled.

Pilates Session Details for upcoming fortnight.

Week starting 10.02.2025

Locomotion

Locomotion refers to the movement or ability to move from one place to another (eg. Walking, running, swimming etc.) It’s the way we use our bodies to travel or change position, using muscles, joints, and various other body parts to propel ourselves.

Pilates is fantastic for improving locomotion, as it enhances the body’s movement patterns and efficiency.  Classes this week will support your movements in making them feel smoother, more efficient, and less prone to discomfort or injury - perfect for those new to running or for those wanting additional performance support.

Week starting 17.02.2025

Stability

Stability within the body is important because it allows for efficient movement, prevents injuries, maintains proper posture, and enables the body to generate force effectively by providing a solid base for movement, particularly during dynamic movements. Join us this week to enhance your stability by improving your body awareness, proprioception, strength and balance.
